What is SLT

SLT, or SAP Landscape Transformation, is a powerful and comprehensive tool used to manage data in SAP systems. It provides an efficient way to synchronize data across multiple SAP systems, and helps ensure data consistency and accuracy. As a user of SAP, it is important to understand the functionality and capabilities of SLT, as it provides a range of benefits for business operations. This blog post will provide an overview of SLT in SAP, including its features and benefits.

Basic Understanding Of SLT Replication Server

SLT Replication Server is a powerful tool used to manage large-scale replication of data in a distributed computing environment. It is a specialized software application that allows for the replication of data across different databases, systems, and applications.

It guarantees that at all times, data is up-to-date and consistent across all databases. This is achieved by mirroring the data between two or more servers, ensuring that they always contain the same information.

It is designed to provide fast, reliable and secure data replication from a primary database to a secondary database or from multiple databases to a single central repository, enabling data to be shared between multiple applications and systems, regardless of their location.

SLT Replication Server provides a comprehensive set of features that allow users to quickly and easily replicate data between disparate databases, ensuring that data remains consistent and up-to-date. It can be used to replicate data across multiple databases, including Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Sybase, and also supports replication between different databases that use different technologies.

Benefits of SLT Replication Server

SLT Replication Server provides a number of key benefits. A few of these are as follows:

  1. Increased Data Availability: With SLT Replication Server, data is made available to applications and systems quickly and reliably, ensuring that data remains up-to-date and consistent across multiple locations.
  2. Enhanced Security: SLT Replication Server provides enhanced security for replicated data, ensuring that only authorized users can access it. It also ensures that replicated data is always encrypted, providing additional protection from malicious users.
  3. Improved Performance: SLT Replication Server offers improved performance when replicating data, reducing the amount of time required to complete the task. The software also improves the speed of data retrieval, making it faster and more efficient for users.
  4. Cost Savings: SLT Replication Server offers significant cost savings compared to traditional data replication solutions. As it is a software-based solution, users don’t have to purchase additional hardware or incur additional costs associated with setting up and maintaining the system.

SLT Replication Server Architecture

SLT Replication Server is composed of four main components: the Replication Server, the Replication Agent, the Replication Source, and the Replication Target.

  1. Replication Server: The Replication Server is responsible for managing the replication process. It is responsible for monitoring the status of the replication jobs, controlling the flow of data between the source and target databases, and managing the overall replication setup.
  2. Replication Agent: The Replication Agent is responsible for transferring data between the source and target databases. It is responsible for ensuring that the data is replicated accurately and securely.
  3. Replication Source: The Replication Source is the origin of the data that is being replicated. It can be a single database or multiple databases.
  4. Replication Target: The Replication Target is the destination of the data that is being replicated. It can also be a single database or multiple databases.

How SLT Replication Server Works?

Mentioned below is the replication process that takes place between Source System (SAP), SLT Replication server and SAP HANA DB:

  1. RFC Connection gets established between SAP Source system and SLT Replication Server.
  2. DB Connection gets established between SLT Replication server and HANA DB.
  3. When the replicate option is executed first time for a table, the system loads the entire data available in the application table to HANA DB.
  4. Once the load completes, status gets changed from Load to Replicate.
  5. Once the status gets changed to replicated, the DB trigger and Logging table is created in the Source system. Logging table continues to store the modified data as per the DB trigger.
  6. Read engine reads the data from logging table and sends it to SLT Replication server using RFC connection.
  7. SLT Replication server transforms and formats the data as per the HANA format and Write engine sends the data to HANA DB using DB connection.

Conclusion

SLT Replication Server is a powerful enterprise-level replication server developed by SAP. It is an ideal solution for businesses that need to replicate large amounts of data quickly and securely. SLT Replication Server offers a number of benefits, including speed, security, scalability, and cost savings. It is also based on a three-tier architecture that consists of the client, server, and data store tiers. SLT Replication Server is a great way to gain experience in data replication and enterprise-level technology.
