ChatGPT – What Is It and How to Use It?

There are times when there are multiple questions in our brain but nobody to answer them. Understanding your pain, Open AI has come up with a long-form question-answering AI known as ChatGPT. It is a Large Language Model (LLM) chatbot developed to answer complex human questions conversationally. Based on GPT-3.5, ChatGPT can understand the exact meaning of any question asked by the user. GPT-3 or Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 is an autoregressive language model that was launched in 2020 and uses deep learning to produce human-like text.

ChatGPT was created by OpenAI, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company, in partnership with Microsoft. OpenAI Inc. is the non-profit parent company of the for-profit OpenAI LP. Microsoft has invested $1 billion in its development.

What Are Large Language Models?

Large language models (LLMs) are deep learning algorithms that can identify, summarize, transform, predict, and create text, and other content based on knowledge gained from huge datasets. It is counted as one of the most successful applications of transformer models.

ChatGPT is one of the finest examples of LLPs. It is trained with such a huge amount of data that makes it capable of predicting the next word after a group of words or completing a sentence, but at a scale that might influence one’s mind. This makes it capable of writing paragraphs and even, entire pages of content

However, LLMs are limited in their ability to interpret the needs of humans. And, this is where ChatGPT comes into play and improves the state of information available with the help of Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) training. Human feedback is also used by Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), an additional layer of training, that helps ChatGPT gain the ability to follow directions and generate responses that are satisfactory to humans.

Training of ChatGPT

ChatGPT was designed to interpret human needs and respond in a human style. This was made possible by training it on massive amounts of data about code and information from multiple sources like Reddit discussions. RLHF, a technique based on human feedback, was also used to train ChatGPT so that it could interpret human expectations when they ask a question. Training the LLM this way is revolutionary because it goes beyond simply training the LLM to predict the next word.

ChatGPT is different from a simple chatbot as it is specifically trained to understand the intention of the human when asking a question and accordingly, provide helpful, truthful, and harmless answers. This, in turn, also makes it capable of challenging and discarding any irrelevant questions.

Limitations of ChatGPT

ChatGPT does not come with all the benefits. It has certain limitations as well. Some of these are as follows:

  1. Restrictions on Toxic Response

ChatGPT is a specifically programmed AI that does not respond to any harmful or toxic questions. It automatically ignores answering such questions. Some of the other questions that it ignores answering are:

    • Demands personal opinion or belief.
    • Are illegal, unethical, or inappropriate?
    • Require knowledge beyond its training data.
    • Involve speculation without evidence.
    • Future predictions with complete certainty.
    • Violate OpenAI’s use-case policy.

  1. Quality of Answers Varies As Per Input

ChatGPT is not smart like human beings. The quality of answers provided by the AI depends on the quality of input provided by the users. In simple words, the directions provided by an expert lead to better answers.

  1. You Cannot Rely Completely On It

The users of ChatGPT need to remember that the answers provided by it are not always correct. Since it is programmed and designed to act like humans, the answers provided by it can trick an individual into believing that the output generated is correct. It has been found that ChatGPT can also provide incorrect answers, sometimes to an extent that they are incorrect.

  1. Tendency To Generate Biased Responses

ChatGPT is very likely to generate biased responses. This is because the responses generated by it are based on the training data available.

  1. Lack of Personal Experiences

ChatGPT is an AI and not a human. Therefore, it lacks human touch and emotions. It is only capable of generating responses based on the data stored in its memory. The user cannot expect personal touch in the responses generated by the app.

Uses of ChatGPT

ChatGPT has simplified many aspects for individuals. For instance, the AI is well-trained to write poems, songs, and even short stories in the tone and style of a specific author. It can even complete college assignments for the users. What’s interesting is that it can grade an article for you and even give recommendations to improve it. This makes the ChatGPT a tool that can be used to accomplish a task instead of just being a source of information.

ChatGPT can also be used to generate outlines for articles or even entire novels. You ask for it and it will respond to virtually any task that can be answered with written text. Apart from improving the existing CVs, it can also generate customized CVs and cover letters for job seekers. Based on your CV or resume, it can also write a short biography for yourself.

The app is also pretty good at creating new jokes and solving math questions. It can also advise you on handling personal relationships with family, friends, and other loved ones. If required, it can also work as a translator for content producers and companies with a global presence.

It can write code for you as well as identify security holes in it. You can also play games with it like asking it to answer some questions for you. For teachers, it can draft an exam or a quiz to assess their students at the end of the session. If you are planning to establish a business, it can assist you with several business ideas.

ChatGPT Is a Fear of Google

ChatGPT can be used as a mini search engine and that is why companies like Google are so scared of this smart and intelligent AI tool. It has the potential to change the way humans interact with computers. With its advanced natural language processing capabilities, this tool has the potential to replace human productivity and creativity.

However, the tool is currently free to use and can be used by entering the “chat.openai.com” URL on the web browser, the users will eventually have to pay to use it.
